Golden Gate Park Map

The ride to Golden Gate Park is actually a tour of three parks via the Bay Trail . You will pass through the Presidio, Lincoln Park and finally Golden Gate Park!

From Blazing Saddles Bike Rentals - go 3 blocks north on Columbus, take a right on Leavenworth at the Holiday Inn to a left on Jefferson for two blocks to get on the easy riding Bay Trail. Head north on it toward the Golden Gate Bridge. You will pass through Aquatic Park (with a free museum), Fort Mason, the Marina District and into the Presidio.

Once inside the Presidio Park bear right to get to the optional gravel bike trail which runs on the edge of San Francisco Bay - this will take you to the underside of the Golden Gate Bridge. Hidden under the bridge you will find Fort Point - the only civil war fort west of the Mississippi - check it out - it's free to get in and has spectacular views of the bridge.

From Fort Point, double back one half mile on the paved road, make a right at the stop sign and two hundred yards up the hill you will see the bike trail split to the right taking you to the Golden Gate Bridge - follow the signs guiding you onto the bridge. You're on the bridge!

The bridge is 1.7 miles long and will take you to Marin County. If you bike across the bridge, once you get to the other side turn around and head back across the bridge to San Francisco to the car road you turned off of and turn right. Go under the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge and follow Lincoln Blvd. along the coast. At the intersection of 25th St. you have just exited the Presidio and the name changes from Lincoln Blvd. to Camino Del Mar, where you will pass trough a residential area leading to Lincoln Park.

Climb the hill through Lincoln park and stop at the top for the views. The Legion of Honor museum sits at the top of the hill. Check out an exact replica of "The Thinker" in the courtyard. Now descend the hill exiting Lincoln Park, make a right on Clement. Clement ends after a mile - turn left, go one block and turn right on Point lobos. Descend the steep hill passing seal rock and the Cliff House restaurant.

At the bottom of the hill is Ocean beach and Golden Gate Park! Look for the giant Dutch Windmill and turn left on John F. Kennedy drive, bear right at the intersection of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. About a quarter mile from this intersection, look for a bike path on the left. Follow the path winding it's way through the park. Any turn or route through the park is fun, so just roll through. Of particular interest are the lakes, meadows, museums, Japanese tea gardens, the polo field, and the conservatory of flowers.

Exit the park near The Conservatory of flowers on Arguello Blvd., this busy road will calm after it crosses Geary Blvd. and take you to the Presidio again to return to Blazing Saddles and the waterfront. Once inside the Presidio again you have about a one mile descent through the park.

Make a left on Moraga, and one block later a right on Montgomery, on your left will be the Presidio National Park visitor center and museum. Leaving the museum go three blocks and turn right on Lincoln Blvd. - then turn left on Lombard a quarter mile later. Follow lombard to Baker St. and turn left. Three blocks down will be the Palace of Fine Arts Museum - a spectacular setting worth a stop. After visiting the Palace of Fine Arts continue toward the water and make a right onto the Bay trail, it is about two miles back to Blazing Saddles.
