Walter Branche Tire Method Tires Wearing Like Iron

Another man who keeps my Eagle on the road is located in Florida. His name is Walter Branche and he is a famous HiWheel cyclist with a long history rolling tall! In 1884 he rolled coast-to-coast on a HiWheel bike and as a collector, almost every kind of antique bicycle on the planet has passed through his hands.

Well last summer via Facebook, he messaged me through the bike tiring method he has had success with for the last few decades.

Since 2003 I’ve been putting on my own tires using a well documented method that has been in place for many years. While it got the tires on to my rims tight, they only stayed that way for a few months before they started to loosen. And yet there again when you use a method that requires that you compact as much as ten extra inches of rubber on to the rim before you silver solder the inner tire wire, what can you expect?

Well, I am excited to say that here now eight months later, my tires are still pretty snug after having used Walter’s method. And I knew they were going to be that way because I was only adding a little over an inch with his plan. As such, I documented it in the hope that other Wheelmen will start making use of what really is also a simpler way of getting our solid rubber tires on to the rims:
