This is the Columbia Club. It was formed in 1888 as a clubhouse to get Indianapolis lawyer, Benjamin Harrison, elected as US President. It was then that the Harrison Marching Society also coined the acronym GOP for the Grand Old Party. Dwarfed now by the 49-story Salesforce tower, in its third incarnation, this 10-story structure was built in 1925, three decades after Harrison became the first Hoosier to hold the highest office in the land.
An exclusive club, its members enjoy the club’s 20,000 square feet of fully-equipped meeting and event space, more than 80 en-suite guest rooms, and 5 dining rooms and there is even a fitness facility they can take advantage of. Secret negotiations were even held here to bring the Baltimore Colts to Indianapolis. This is also where every Republican president who has visited Indianapolis has stayed.
It sites next to Christ Church, across from the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.
