If instead of turning left at 10th St on to the Monon Trail. you continue under the freeway, the first building you come to continues on along along Brookside Drive for as far as the eye can see. Known now as the as the Circle City Industrial Complex, this is a cavernous structure filled with art and enterprise. While dozens of small businesses call the over half a million square feet of warehouses their home, there is also a winter-time Farmers Mkt here. As well as Centerpoint Brewing.
All of this was all built by Louis Schwitzer, the man who won the first ever car race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1909. With his sprawling Schwitzer Corporation, he brought about significant improvements in cooling, hydraulics, and the development of the turbocharger. His company did business here from the early 1920’s until the early 1990’s.
