T he Steamboat proclamation was very nice, and included the riders, coordinator Riley Polumbus from the Chamber of Commerce, a sharp gal and councilman Paul Strong, also very knowledgeable. He read the proclamation and we all shook his hand in front of city hall, Greg, Chris, Bryon and I. There is no Mayor in this city. I also gave a little spiel about the NBG and our ride in on their nice bike trail. I also mentioned a close call for Greg and I had when a white van who was passing another vehicle made us both scramble to get as close to a guard rail as possible. He missed us by a foot or less at 60+ miles an hour. We got a free lunch from the Creekside Restaurant, a beautiful spot along a creek with a very attentive manager and wonderful help.

The Steamboat Springs ceremony was quite a bit quieter than the Boulder reception being Friday at noon and not in conjunction with another event. We were met at Steamboat City Hall by Chris Butson and Bryon Wright who were riding with Jim to Salt Lake City. Thanks to Riley Polumbus of the Steamboat Chamber of Commerce for organizing and Paul Strong for reading the proclamation in front of the courthouse followed by a wonderful meal at the Creekside Cafe patio on the creek. Steamboat has a beautiful 7 mile or so bike trail already in place along the Yampa River. After riding from Boulder I found myself riding their bike trail that very night and numerous times the two days I was there. I then escorted Jim, Chris and Bryon a few miles out of town and the ride continued.
