Gil and Dave came in smiling (wearing our Pittsburgh t-shirts) and to great applause from the crowd of people assembled here. We had two different television stations, our two newspapers covered it and two radio stations giving a play-by-play. They had a motorcycle police escort to our building - followed by five members of our bike police, the Freddie Fu contingent, the riders who are going to carry on with the relay, and some of our bicycle clubs sent members. It was quite an event. The press conference lasted over 1/2 hour and the Mayor was very happy since he is also a cyclist. I don't know how well our proclamation is going to travel - the Washington, DC one looks pretty wrinkled, wet and shabby - but I told Gil and David that it was testament to the type of weather and conditions they've been through. There were a lot of very happy people outside today - and it created a stir among those who do not cycle now - but plan to do so soon. There were times, I must admit, that I didn't think we would be able to pull this off - but we did and it was great fun.
