Crucial Bolt Break – Eagle Still Not Tough Enough for Irish Roads

The man, Jimmy Devaney, you see here, is holding the strut that  separated from the bike when the bolt that held it  to the steer tube broke. Ugh, just when I was starting to think I had bullet-proofed my bike well enough for the constant pounding of these Irish back roads, I experience this setback. About a mile before Jimmy saw me walking by his house, I had jumped off the bike to inspect the subtle metal creaking noises I had been hearing. Combined with slightly odd handling, the bike made me think  I had a broken spoke.

I couldn’t see anything when upon mounting, the bike went one way and I went the other. A three mile walk in bike shoes resulted. Well, at least this does look like a pretty straight forward fix…

THX 4 all of U!!
