Having grown up in San Francisco’s East Bay, San Francisco in the 70’s or 80’s was a pretty tough place to ride a bike. I remember when the only place bicycles could be found moving about in The City was in Golden Gate Park. It wasn’t until the Loma Prieta earthquake brought down the Embarcadero freeway that cyclists began to show up in force. If you want to see who we feel are the main cyclists who led the charge to retake the city, go HERE. There you can migrate to the individual pages we have built for all seven of the cyclists we are calling San Francisco Groundbreaking Cyclists.
To see the NBG Biking pages for the 16 cities that stand between San Francisco and Washington DC (that are all on the route we now have that connects SF with the Nation’s Capitol), go HERE ! You can see and drill deeper into this coast-to-coast route at BikeRoute.com!
You can also see the amazing tour of San Francisco that Carla Laser, another groundbreaking cyclist, who we have yet to interview, did with us in 2013 HERE. She is cooking up a 2014 version, set for July 20, that will include a lot of the same cycling ambassadors (made up many of the groundbreaking cyclists talked about above) as last year. Her tour will have received the annual ride we are bringing up from Palo Alto the day before. To see all of this year’s Mayors’ Rides, go HERE .
