Got. my hair cut at an old Lincoln Hwy gas station turned barbed shop here in Davis, California called the Olive Drive Barber Shop – .Lilly Nguyen (pronounced ‘win’), the proprietor, did a great job!! I stumbled upon it in my search for Slatters Motor Court which I have heard is one of the first, automobile lodges on the Lincoln Hwy that I talk about in the appendix of “How America Can Bike and Grow Rich, the National Bicycle Greenway in Action” (HBGR).
Located opposite the Davis train station, to get to Slatters Court, I had to go under the railroad tracks that run behind Whole Foods Market Davis as I show in the first photo below. Historically, that tunnel is also supposed to be only active tunnel remaining on the Lincoln.
As we push to make the National Bicycle Greenway real, keep an eye on us as we continue to learn from all the mistakes and successes that embodied Americas’s first cost-to-coast road, the Lincoln Highway!!
In other news, and I mean big, Betty Butler, a power house executive who recently retired from the successful nonprofit she started, the New Mexico Missing Children’s Clearinghouse, and who was a copywriter/reviewer/editor for a few well known publications has offered to help me turn HBGR into the Call for Action I had originally intended for it. Too exciting!! I will keep you posted!!
THX 4 all of U!!
