After I interviewed Rose City Recumbent Cycles, below here, I absolutely had to spend more time with Jonathan Garcia, HERE, possibly the most versatile, well rounded and experienced bike shop front men on the planet. Over his 40 years in the bike industry, Jonathan enjoyed a 15 year career as a celebrated, professional freestyle bike rider on bikes he personally re-configured (photos) , he has co-owned two bike manufacturing companies, apprenticed as a welder with one of the best in the business and even has the scrap book from when he started designing bikes when he was 10 years old. |

During this year's Race Across America, we visited with a true legend, the man whose Bob Beamon-like record in that race stood for almost 30 years – Pete Penseyres. An amazing man with an encyclopedic understanding of the cross country speed challenge his name loomed above for three decades, his gentle way will inspire you to go out and ride as he still does now at age 72! Made up of two parts, in the second one, we talk about the important part recumbent bicycles, in particular the Lightning Cycle Dynamics recumbent, played in Pete’s Race Across America successes.

Today we talked with Jim Parker, the MD who is behind the amazing Cruzbike that he, his wife Maria Parker and others are using to set speed records everywhere they go with the machine. All this as he and his wife adopted a Chinese girl who is now seven. From her home in Lumberton, North Carolina, Maria Parker, a mother of four young adults, talked to us about a race she is doing across America for her sister who has terminal brain cancer. Called RAAM, it is the worlds toughest bike race, far more challenging than the Tour de France. Just qualifying for it, much less finishing it, is a challenge of unspeakable proportion.
Nor is Maria doing this for fame or for the bike company (Cruzbike) she owns with her husband, Jim, and a partner.
